  • Expat Dell high-flyer resigns to join Australian bank

Expatriate New Zealander Andy Lark, who has held senior roles in the US at Sun Microsystems and Dell, is to return down under and join Australia's Commonwealth Bank as chief marketing officer.
In a statement announcing Lark's appointment, Commonwealth Bank retail banking services executive Ross McEwan says “I am delighted to have someone of the capability and experience of Andrew joining our team. He is a high calibre executive with experience leading global marketing functions at large international companies in Asia, Europe and most recently the United States”.
Lark takes up the role on July 1.
Most recently, he was a vice president at Dell, where he was responsible for global marketing for the company's Public and Large Enterprise Group. Before that, he was chief marketing officer at Silicon Valley start-up LogLogic, and, prior to that, was vice president for global marketing and communications at Sun Microsystems. He also had an earlier spell at Dell before that.
He grew up in Auckland and is a graduate of Auckland University.
The Commonwealth Bank statement notes that Lark has a strong record in "emerging technologies and development and use of new media channels, such as online and social media". An early-adopter of blogging, Lark announced his appointment at the bank on his blog yesterday. He cites giving his children the experience of living down under as a reason for the move.
Lark's blogging landed him in a controversy earlier this year when his comments about the iPad were disputed by some in the IT industry.
