HP and DICOM Partner to Offer Customers an End to End Document Management Solution

SYDNEY, January 15, 2004 HP has announced the signing of an exclusive agreement with DICOM Australia, a global leader in the Electric Document Capture (EDC) market, to distribute HP's two new high performance scanners, the HP Scanjet 8250 and HP Scanjet 8290.

Under the agreement, DICOM Australia will package Kofax EDC software with the new HP Scanjet 8250 and Scanjet 8290 scanners before system integrators provide them to customers, providing an end-to-end document management solution.

Seamus McGuinness, Managing Director for DICOM Australia, said, "The integration of Kofax EDC software with HP's two new scanners ensures customers experience the highest quality document scans possible with superior document capture features.

"Kofax's Virtual ReScan software will work with HP's new scanners to produce perfect scans every time and will dramatically reduce the need for rescanning or pre-scan document sorting. As a result, customers can effortlessly produce perfect document scans without adjusting and readjusting the scanner for different paper types, colours or varying quality of the original."

McGuinness continued, "With HP's new document management scanners, we will be able to offer our customers an even broader portfolio of quality products.

"Partnering with HP also enables us to capitalise on the company's strong expertise and wealth of experience in the SMB space."

John Gowland, Market Development Manager, Digital Imaging, Imaging & Printing Group, HP Australia said the decision to partner exclusively with DICOM Australia was an easy one for the company, because of its wealth of experience and knowledge in the document management space.

"HP chose DICOM Australia as it is one of the market leaders in EDM, and as such has a solid understanding of what the market needs and wants," said Gowland.

HP's two new high performance scanners, the HP Scanjet 8250 and HP Scanjet 8290 are designed for fast and efficient document management, and are an ideal solution for Small and Medium Businesses (SMBs), seeking a full functionality set required by large enterprises. Further information follows.

"The HP Scanjet 8250 and HP Scanjet 8290 scanners broaden HP's content management portfolio of capture devices by offering extended document management capabilities in PC connected scanning environments," said Gowland.

HP Scanjet 8250 The HP Scanjet 8250 provides great versatility for users with both image and document needs and is ideal for those with requirements ranging from processing of multipage documents to the scanning of photos and even slides or negatives up to 4800 dpi optical/hardware resolution.

The 15 pages per minute (ppm) ADF and duplex facility means the HP Scanjet 8250 can scan large, multi-page documents quickly and efficiently, and the optical character recognition (OCR) technology allows users to easily edit the scanned text.

In addition, the HP Scanjet 8250 comes with software including Newsoft Presto! Pagemanager, allowing users to store, organise and use documents through a shared folder for fast and reliable access.

HP Scanjet 8290 The HP Scanjet 8290 is designed for business users operating in work groups, needing decentralised yet sophisticated document managing facilities. This model offers quick document scanning of the highest quality, enhancing productivity.

This reliable, high performance scanning system offers everything necessary for effective document management, including the impressive 25ppm ADF with duplexing capability for the scanning of double-sided pages. The dual interface, with both USB Hi Speed and SCSI connectivity (SCSI PC card included), ensures complete compatibility with existing IT environments, including Microsoft NT 4.0. The included ISIS and TWAIN drivers also provide seamless integration into document management solutions.

The HP Scanjet 8290 includes leading professional document management software to provide the ultimate experience in document scanning. Kofax's Virtual ReScan automatically checks all scans, optimising for maximum readability to ensure optimum OCR capability. NSi OneStep captures, processes and automatically routes the electronic file to back-end applications (such as MS SharePoint Portal, Lotus Notes), all with a single click of the mouse. As with the HP Scanjet 8250, the included ScanSoft software assists with the storing and organising of documents and the easy and accurate capture of form-based information.

Both of HP's new scanners include an extended warranty, ensuring the high level of service and support expected from HP. In addition to their fast pace ADFs with 50-sheet capacity, these scanners require 'no warm-up' time and will provide preview scans in as little as four seconds.

The HP Scanjet 8250 and HP Scanjet 8290 scanners are PC and Mac compatible and are available now for the following recommended retail prices. · HP Scanjet SJ8250 RRP $1,500 excluding GST · HP Scanjet SJ8290 RRP $2,500 excluding GST
