Foursticks and 8e6 Technologies announce $4.5 million OEM licensing agreement
Network performance specialist Foursticks today announced a $4.5 (US$3.2) million OEM agreement with US content filtering leader 8e6 Technologies.
The deal covers Foursticks’ NP Gateway policy-based network monitoring and performance management software, which 8e6 will release as a standalone appliance.
8e6 Technologies is a leader in appliance-based Internet Filtering and Reporting solutions. The company has been in business since 1995, providing its products to large enterprises and school districts throughout the world.
“There’s an increasing need for monitoring and management of bandwidth use in enterprise and education networks,” said 8e6 President and COO Paul Myer. “We see the Foursticks technology as a significant enhancement to the value proposition we bring to our customers.
“Foursticks approaches the problem from the network performance viewpoint, ensuring that the applications that bring most value to the business are flagged and given priority access to the network,” added Myer. “That makes it an ideal fit with our content filtering and we believe the combination will give both companies a competitive lead.”
Foursticks CTO Alan Noble - ex- VP of Engineering of NASDAQ listed Pumatech - said 8e6 was both a strong technology partner and channel to market. “Our technology roadmaps are already closely aligned and we have agreed on a joint two-year product roadmap,” Noble said.
Foursticks Founder and CEO David Bohn said this provides 8e6 with an opportunity to up-sell into its existing Fortune 1000 customer base.
“8e6’s markets are very similar to our own, being organizations with large, distributed networks running multiple applications,” Mr Bohn said. “Many of 8e6’s customers are starting to put in place rudimentary network performance already so are looking for a solution. Together we will create an unassailable position.”
8e6 recently launched its next generation filtering appliance, the 8e6 R3000 Enterprise Filter. The company's previous filtering appliance, the R2000, is currently operating worldwide in thousands of installations.
"The addition of Foursticks NP to our product line is an important milestone for us," said George Shih, Founder and CEO of 8e6 Technologies. "Additionally, our product road map calls for significant integration with our current products over the life of this OEM agreement."
To coincide with the agreement, Foursticks will expand its presence in the US, relocating its corporate headquarters to Silicon Valley in early 2004.
