Industrial Adhesives Industry Scope and Regional Trance

According to research study, the first industrial adhesive came into use with the establishment of first ever glue plant in 1690 in Holland. Adhesives offer huge advantages to the industrial works by fixing materials of different shapes and sizes.

Industrial adhesives categorized in two ways, which are chemical composition or adhesion properties.

1. Chemical Composition

Acrylic adhesives are well known for their excellent environmental resistance and fast-setting times. Cyanoacrylates, or super-glues, are one-part acrylate adhesives that cure instantly on contact with mated surfaces through a reaction with surface moisture.

Epoxy adhesives are a chemical compounds for joining components. Epoxy is a combination of a resin and a hardener.

Polyurethane adhesives are fit for excellent flexibility, impact resistance, and durability. They are often used in finish carpentry and with woodworking projects.

Rubber adhesives are usually based on butadiene-styrene, butyl, polyisobutylene, or nitrile compounds and provide highly flexible bonds.

Silicone adhesives are used in plumbing as well as in marine applications and have a high degree of flexibility and very high temperature resistance.

Acrylic segment dominated the industrial adhesives market in 2015 and is also likely to witness highest growth during the forecast period owing to the growing demand from packaging industry. Other growth factors include its properties such as viscosity, resistance from moisture and heat, strong adhesion, and high solidity.

2. Adhesion Properties

Solvent-based adhesives, pressure sensitive adhesives, water-based adhesives, hot-melt adhesives, and others are the adhesion properties. Solvent-based Adhesives are principally consisting of polymers such as natural rubber, polychloroprene, etc., dissolved in aliphatic or aromatic solvents.

• Short fixing times • Instantaneous high initial bonding • Application of adhesive and bonding of the substrates can be performed independently, at different times (solvent reactivation) • No solvent is involved in the actual bonding process (heat reactivation) • Good adhesion to a variety of substrates, particularly plastics • Composition can be varied, thanks to a large variety of different raw materials

Water-based Adhesives cites for good heat resistance, high tack and good water resistance. Also they work well for tape applications such as films, masking, removable applications and high performance. Water based adhesives also abides by the government regulations regarding low emission of VOC content in environment. Based on type, water based segment accounted for the largest share in the industrial adhesives market as the segment offers excellent strength, and the reduction of automotive emission.

Pressure Sensitive Adhesives are thinner and lighter materials used for gap filling and surface refinishing. Packaging, automotive & transportation, and electronics, electrical & telecommunication industries are driving the PSA market growth.

Hot melt Adhesives allow parts to be removed or repositioned during assembly and can be repeatably softened or melted by heat and hardened or set by cooling.

Thermoset Adhesives exhibit good creep resistance and are used for high load assemblies and are crosslinked polymeric resins cured using heat, or heat and pressure.

UV Curing Adhesives and radiation curable adhesives use ultraviolet (UV) light or other radiation sources to initiate curing, which allows a permanent bond without heating.

Asia-Pacific was the largest market for industrial adhesives, in terms of value and volume, in 2015. Growing number of production facilities across the globe; growing investments from foreign companies; strong industrial base in infrastructure construction sector and rise in living standards are the major factors accounting for the growth of concrete industrial adhesives market in this region. The demand for industrial adhesives in the regions like North America and Europe is likely to increase in the future years owing to the heavy investment by key manufacturers for development of bio-based alternatives. In LAMEA region, the market for industrial adhesives will grow due to increased construction activities in countries such as Brazil, UAE, Saudi Arabia and parts of Africa.
