The IT industry is exiting its worst year ever both globally and in Asia Pacific, Gartner says.

IT managers in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Australia may be putting company data at risk by underestimating the effect of its loss, said Kroll Ontrack on Thursday.
The number of Internet users rose 41.9 percent year-on-year to 298 million in 2008, according to the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC).
As bullishness turns to caution, Asia Pacific organizations are expected to delay IT hardware upgrades and large technology projects and focus on efforts to improve client retention and acquisition, said Gartner on Wednesday.
IT spending in the Asia-Pacific region is expected to reach almost US$523 billion (NZ$737 billion) this year, according to research firm Gartner.
