IBM Jazz-ing up collaboration

IBM is working on a research project pertaining to collaborative development, called Jazz, which is focused on the notion of presence, said Grady Booch, an IBM Fellow.
The concept of presence involves having software that is able to know when someone else is online. The ability to set up quick meetings also is pertinent, Booch said in interview earlier this week.
"To be honest, there's no killer app here, but the issue is weaving all those things together with the desktop for (enhancing) the developer experience," Booch said.
The pressure to collaborate has increased with the use of outsourcing, in which developers need to be addressed at different locations, according to Booch.
He said he could not comment on how Jazz might be used in a product. Rational is funding the project with IBM Research.
