Intel Buys Telecom Equipment Maker

Intel has entered into an agreement to acquire privately held Ziatech Corp. for $US240 million. Based in San Luis Obispo, California, Ziatech designs and sells Intel-based circuit boards, hardware platforms and development systems aimed at telecommunication equipment makers.
Ziatech will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Intel, and its approximately 200 employees will become part of Intel's Communications Products Group.
Ziatech's customers currently include Ericsson, Copper Mountain Networks, Nortel Networks, Lucent Technologies, Marconi/FORE, and Redback Networks.
In another announcement, Intel will integrate MATRAnet's WebTouch CRM into Intel's Dot.Station Web appliance. MATRAnet's CRM software allows users to do customer profiling, collaborative browsing, live chat, instant e-mail and call-back via their Web sites.
