Nokia to manage Chorus’s network for three more years

Nokia has renewed for a further three years a managed services agreement with Chorus signed in 2014 with Alcatel-Lucent, since acquired by Nokia. The new contract means that Nokia retains its role as the sole managed services provider to Chorus.
It follows Chorus announcing in January that it would extend its ultra-fast broadband (UFB) rollout to a further 169 areas making it available to an additional 200,000-plus homes and businesses.
Nokia said that, under the new contract, it would continue to provide fully managed end-to-end operations services “to further enhance the customer experience, operational efficiency and quality of[Chorus’] national fixed line network.”
Nokia said it would manage the Chorus network from its global delivery centre in India and will use performance data and proactive correlation of network events to prevent faults and improve network availability, reduce the number of incidents and minimise costs.
Alcatel-Lucent had been working with Chorus since Chorus’ inception in 2011, providing fixed access network technology, services and network operations support .
This latest agreement follows the signing of a three year supply contract in May 2016 under which Nokia supplies its broadband access, IP routing and optical transport technology to Chorus.
Nokia said at the time that it would continue to deploy a mix of fixed access products including fibre-based GPON FTTH and copper-based VDSL2 technology, along with new IP routing and optical carrier transport services to help create the network scale and capacity needed.
That agreement followed a five-year managed services cooperation announced in 2015 under which Nokia delivers monitoring and analysis of Chorus’ copper and fibre wholesale networks.
