ACS Innovations has introduced a digital camera that will allow Netscape Navigator 3.0 users to capture colour still and motion images for use in World Wide Web pages, as well as two-way communications and video teleconferencing.
The COMPRO Digital colour Internet Camera captures images directly into a computer through its parallel port using D-Viewer, Windows-compatible software that allows control of image capturing, image rendering, special effects, storage and retrieval. Users do not need a video capture card or separate power adapter.
The camera provides 256 gray scales and 16.8 million true color formats up to a resolution of 640-by-480 pixels. Focus is adjustable for close-up work and digital motion video can be captured at a resolution of 160-by-120.
The ACS Gold Package, which will sell for about US$228 worldwide beginning in about 10 days, will include the Digital Internet Camera, Netscape Navigator Gold 3.0, D-Viewer software, a camera head, parallel port pass-through interface unit, adjustable camera stand and keyboard intercept power cable.
It also includes software for Web page creation and editing, Internet connection software, automatic Internet setup with a choice of Internet service providers, and seven extra Navigator plug-ins.
Standard drivers for existing videoconferencing and image rendering software for both Video for Windows (AVI) and scanner mode (TWAIN) interfaces are available.
ACS will introduce other packages with videoconferencing, graphics enhancement and video segment special effects software modules.
Other applications include Web site authoring; including images in email, whiteboard sharing, remote monitoring; desktop publishing; photo identification cards; medical and dental imagery; insurance claims and property databases.
Minimum system requirements are a 386, 486, Pentium or X86 IBM- compatible PC with at least 4M bytes of RAM, Windows 3.1 or higher, EGA, VGA or SVGA graphics card and a parallel port.
