One of the most colourful figures in magazine publishing - Wired magazine's Louis Rossetto - will head up the list of guest speakers during Magazine Week at the end of this month.
Rossetto will speak at the Sheraton Luncheon Club on May 28 and his partner and co-founder Jane Metcalfe will address an editors' forum. Both will attend the launch of the New Gallery's exhibition, 'Magazines - Icons of Contemporary Culture' on May 26.
Rossetto, a one-time student radical, took Wired to arguably the most influential magazine launch of the decade in 1993. The magazine now has a circulattion of 325,000 and its associated network of Websites gets 200,000 visits daily. TV and book divisions have also been spawned.
Although his company, Wired Ventures, has spread its endeavours, Rossetto will speak on the continuing importance of magazines in a multimedia world.
Magazine Week, from May 24-30, is the Magazine Publishers' Association's celebration of New Zealand magazines. Further details are available from project director Aline Sandilands, ph 09-302-5341 or fax 373-2968.
