The climax of Reid’s two-year term was the South East Asian Regional Computer Confederation conference, staged in New Zealand for the first time last week.
The event attracted about 250 attendees, about 70% of whom were New Zealanders, 10% Australian and 20% Asian.
Speakers included hospital IT chiefs Phil Brimacombe and Ray Delany, who described the benefits of collaborating in the implementation of information systems.
Delany, of Waitemata District Health Board, which has just bought PiMS patient management software, says the decision was helped by the success Brimacombe has had with it at South Auckland Health.
Reid says participation at the event wasn’t as great as she would have liked.
“People speak of a commitment to professional development but here they’ve passed up a great opportunity.”
Reid’s successor, Harte, is IT manager at Dunedin City Council.
