Cross gets clever

Greg Cross, the former head of Auckland-based Advantage Group and Microsoft New Zealand, is launching a software and services company.
Cross says the business will focus on providing business intelligence for senior executives of medium to large organisations going through significant change, such as merger or acquisition activity.
US studies that show a correlation between the use of business intelligence and company performance captured his imagination, he says.
“I have been looking at delivering business intelligence as a managed service and what I call intelligent business applications, which are focused on doing a much better job at providing context to data that exists in business and around businesses through their customers and partnerships,” he says.
Such intelligence will look at profit and loss, strategic and operational issues, how businesses are growing, how separate businesses might be merged and identifying the most valuable customers.
Cross plans to register his as yet unnamed company in February. Six others with “New Zealand and international IT business experience” are involved in the venture but Cross won’t say who they are. Together they have invested a “five figure” sum. Cross will focus on management and sales and setting the company up, with the others more in software development.
“Right at the moment I am looking to establish a number of joint ventures over the next 12 to 18 months in a number of key Pacific-rim cities, such as Sydney, Singapore, San Francisco, Tokyo and Auckland, where I live and am based,” he says.
