Dear What Am I Worth
I've been working in the IT industry for two years now. My main roles include development and database administration. Development wise I specialise in Delphi, Java and C++, writing specialist data entry software packages for my current employer.
My database administration role requires me to keep our Oracle database running smoothly in a Unix environment. I provide user/PC support at times and also spend a large amount of time communicating with other staff members troubleshooting deployed applications as well as gathering information on current project requirements.
I have good PC hardware skills as well as a fair amount of Unix administration skills. I also have a bachelor's degree in computer science.
Mercury Consulting Group replies: It all comes down to the type of position you are after. The Java and C++ means you could take up a development opportunity and with your two years' experience, earn around $50,000. Alternatively, good Oracle database administrators are rare and worth about the same.
