FRAMINGHAM (09/24/2003) - Tackling the mammoth problems of target identification and validation, LION Bioscience AG of Heidelberg, Germany, has launched Target Engine software.
Built on the LION DiscoveryCenter integration platform, the new software also leverages LION's SRS data-integration tool. Target Engine is a scalable, customizable solution aimed at speeding up the early stages of drug discovery by helping researchers quickly and easily identify and select targets that have the highest probability of success in the discovery pipeline, through a single interface.
A single interface gives Target Engine users a unified view of all of their data.
Target Engine includes a centralized Gene Hub that unifies all available data, sequence registration for gene and sequence management, and annotation supporting a variety of predictive software tools. The software allows for pathway and protein-protein interaction pathway interpretation, genome and protein structure analysis, text mining, target tracking, and data visualization.
Importantly, the flexible architecture also lets user companies integrate other key technologies, such as GeneSpring from Silicon Genetics.
Italian biotechnology company Siena Biotech became the first customer for Target Engine, even before the product's launch. Siena, which also licenses LION's SRS Evolution, is setting up a comprehensive drug discovery platform, from disease selection to Phase II clinical studies. "LION Target Engine and LION DiscoveryCenter will help us integrate all the data and applications we use as part of our research activities," said Georg C. Terstappen, Siena's vice president of discovery research, in a press release.
