FRAMINGHAM (01/07/2004) - Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Co. (BNSF) announced this week that it's now making information on track maintenance projects available to customers online.
"Providing accurate, timely information is part of our commitment to meeting our customers' expectations," Greg Fox, BNSF's vice president for engineering, said in the statement. "This new tool will make it easier for customers to 'see' maintenance projects that might affect the routes on which their shipments move."
Fort Worth, Texas-based BNSF said the new interactive maintenance-of-way map is available under "Planned Track Maintenance" online.
The railroad said customers can click on a region of the map, which will pop up a Web browser window describing maintenance projects currently taking place at that location. The information provided will include the location of the project; the dates on which the work will be taking place, including the time of day and day of week; notes about the type of project under way; a list of trains that could be affected; and an estimate about any potential delays, which is updated as operating conditions change.
The map will be updated weekly, with only the current week displayed.
Customers will continue to receive advisories from the railway concerning major maintenance projects that will also be posted to the Network Overview page on the BNSF Web site.
