Windows to Lindows: Lay off

Despite the efforts of Microsoft Corp. lawyers to stop them, the Linux supplier, Lindows.com Inc., on Tuesday said it will continue to help Californians with their legal claims against Microsoft.

Microsoft lawyers demanded that Lindows' MSfreePC site stop processing claims on behalf of current and former California residents who qualify for proceeds from the settlement of a class action antitrust lawsuit against Microsoft.

Microsoft attorneys contend that claims made by the Lindows service will not qualify under the terms of the settlement and therefore made a demand that Lindows take down the site.

Lindows CEO Michael Roberts sent a letter to Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates stating he believes the site performs a valuable service for consumers and so his company intends to keep it live.
