Online retailer Amazon.com Inc. on Friday launched a new service that offers alerts over mobile phones about the company's auctions.
The service, called Mobile Auctions, will allow consumers with wireless Internet-capable phones to search new auction items, enter and monitor bids and track sales from a handset, the company said in a statement. Customers can create their own custom alerts, which will notify them about the status of auctions.
The service will operate through the company's Amazon Anywhere mobile electronic-commerce division, which launched in October of last year.
