New Zealand Government intelligence organisations — the Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB) and the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) — are both on the lookout for IT staff.
GCSB is also wants an experienced recruitment advisor to help it source staff for both the GCSB and NZSIS.
GCSB “ensures the integrity and confidentiality of government information, collects foreign intelligence bearing on New Zealand’s interests, and assists other New Zealand government agencies to discharge their legislatively mandate.”
NZSIS “investigates threats to New Zealand’s national security, collects foreign intelligence, and provides a range of protective security advice and services to the New Zealand Government.”
NSIS is seeking to fill the new role of operational advisor to “ensure oversight and confidence in the safety and security of all NZSIS intelligence gathering operations…[providing] operational security advice across the full range of NZSIS operational and risk management activity.”
It is looking for someone with “significant operational experience, preferably in intelligence gathering operations,” and “an ability to identify, research, and understand technology borne risks to the NZSIS and its operational activity,” and is prepared to pay up to $135k per year for the right person.
It also wants a protective monitoring centre engineer to lead a team of engineers and developers to support end users. The person hired will also be responsible for “leading, supporting, enhancing and designing the infrastructure behind [NZSIS’s] specialised SIEM analysis platform.”
CGSB is looking for a “a practical IT person with a passion for computing” to fill the role of cryptologic engineer in its infrastructure team. It has issued a long ‘wish list’ of the sought after IT skills, saying: These are some of the skills that the successful applicant will have (not all of them, but hey, we can dream right?)” Salary is up to $116k per year.
CGSB also wants to hire a senior operational policy advisor for the Office of the Director-General and provide advice and coordination of strategic policy, risk and assurance, compliance and legal activities to the DG.

The successful recruit must be able to take technical and legal requirements and create effective operational policy. A salary up to $116k is offered.
