New Zealand cloud computing service provider Catalyst Cloud has launched what it says is New Zealand's first public Kubernetes platform certified by the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF).
Kubernetes is an open-source system for automating deployment, scaling, and management of containerised applications. It was originated by Google and is now maintained by the CNCF.
Certification, according to Catalyst Cloud, "guarantees application portability and assures customers that Kubernetes APIs work as designed."
It says: "Catalyst Kubernetes Service makes it easy to deploy, manage and scale Kubernetes clusters to run containerised applications, allowing IT teams to fully automate the life-cycle of applications running on the cloud, becoming more agile with their workflows and maximising productivity."
Catalyst Cloud managing director Bruno Lago said Kubernetes made cloud computing more accessible and easier to use. "Until now, developers needed a lot of specialist knowledge to use cloud computing infrastructure. With a fully managed Kubernetes platform, developers can focus on their applications."
He said Catalyst Cloud had made all the code it had developed to create its Kubernetes service open source "to benefit organisations here and worldwide."
Catalyst Cloud has been offering cloud computing services for over four years. It became part of the Catalyst IT group in August 2017 and describes itself as "an independent company" within the group.
