IBM cutting 200 jobs in software division

FRAMINGHAM (11/21/2003) - IBM Corp. is cutting approximately 200 jobs in its software unit to eliminate overlapping positions and streamline operations.

IBM spokesman John Reilly said the layoffs amount to 0.5 percent of the 38,000 employees in the software division worldwide. He said that the workers being laid off are in more than 20 locations around the U.S. and that the cuts will affect employees in the marketing, finance and support jobs.

Reilly said the employees will be allowed to seek work in other divisions within the company.

In an earlier round of layoffs in September, IBM cut 380 software jobs.
