EDS wins government data warehouse contract

HONG KONG (10/03/2003) - U.S.-based outsourcing services provider, Electronic Data Systems Corp. (EDS) announced yesterday it has been awarded a contract to implement a Public Works Program Information System (PWPIS) for the Environment, Transport and Works Bureau (ETWB) of the Hong Kong government.

The system will enable timely and efficient coordination and sharing of Public Works Program information throughout the ETWB, which includes approximately 900 users across six works departments.

EDS will supply a customized data warehouse application to consolidate information and data from the various departments. An Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) tool will be used to provide multi-dimensional views of the data to meet the diverse needs of the ETWB. While further data analysis tools will be provided to streamline the production of management and statistics-based reports. EDS expects the tools to help improve process and project management efficiency and lower IT-related costs to the ETWB .

"Through the implementation of this new system for the ETWB, we look forward to supporting the government in its endeavor to enhance the management of the Public Works Program and the efficient monitoring of its public works projects," said Jay Davis, president, EDS Asia and Japan.

No further details of the contract were made available in the announcement.
