Manukau Institute of Tech rolls out new WAN

Details new WAN built with Extreme Networks gear

Auckland’s Manukau Institute of Technology has built a wide area network linking its nine campuses around the city using equipment from Extreme Networks.

According to Extreme Networks, the Institute has a particularly diverse set of sites, applications and learning environments that range from traditional teacher-led classroom resources to bridge and engine room simulators for marine engineering students run by the New Zealand Maritime School facility.

Manukau Institute of Technology’s systems manager, ICTS, Russell Smith said the Institute needed a comprehensive, easy-to-manage network.

“Extreme’s network management solution has dramatically exceeded our expectations, and has allowed our team to focus on delivering a more strategic level of support to our business users,” he said. “The level of service and support we have received from the Extreme team has been outstanding.”

Chris Georgellis, managing director, Extreme Networks, Australia and New Zealand, said the Institute wanted to remake its network into an asset that would help drive and support its educational mission.

“We understood the critical role that the network would play in this - and the importance that the MIT team placed on flexibility and simplifying their network management environment for IT and system administrators,” he said.

The Manukau Institute of Technology network includes:

- Extreme Summit X670-G2 Series 10 gigabit core ethernet switches:

- Extreme X440-G2-PoE for policy enabled edge switching;

- Extreme X450-G2 for edge switching

- Extreme Management Center, single pane of glass network management system

- ExtremeControl, multi-vendor interoperability access control system.
