Promapp to streamline First Gas’ business process management

Gas distribution network operator First Gas will deploy cloud-based business process management software from New Zealand company Promapp

Gas distribution network operator First Gas is to deploy cloud-based business process management software from New Zealand company Promapp to replace its rudimentary, manual paper-based business process management system.

First Gas operates several thousand kilometres of gas pipelines that it uses to provide gas distribution services to retailers who sell gas to more than 65,000 customers in more than 40 towns and cities. It also provides pipeline management and metering services to other pipeline owners in New Zealand..

As part of a strategy to support continuous improvement and organisational growth, First Gas decided to replace its rudimentary, manual paper-based processes with Promapp’s process mapping tool.

First Gas’, information systems manager Huw Griffiths said the company had a highly fragmented approach to business process management. “We were facing a situation where we had people with 20 years’ experience in the industry but no one process was mapped from start to finish. Each department had its own way of doing things and its own version of the truth when it came to developing and following a process.”

Griffiths said the company had chosen Promapp after Promapp set up a demonstration site within First Gas where First Gas could put in its own data “to the test and see [Promapp’s] benefits in real life scenarios.”

Promapp said it would assist First Gas to increase the control, audit trail and efficiency of their approval processes. “Their process approval workflow functionality includes change tracking from one version to the next, secure online approval of process changes, a personal dashboard for all change notifications, and updated status reports.

“[Promapp] is also able to automatically route changes to approvers’ dashboards and provides for a simple one-click to review and approve any amendments.”

It added that First Gas might also deploy Promapp to support its requirements for risk and compliance as part of “an ongoing strategy for its 150 staff to drive continuous improvement opportunities in every department from research and development through to customer service.”

Aragon accolade for Promapp

Earlier this month Promapp was recognised as one of the five Hot Vendors in Business Process Management 2017, in an annual report prepared by Silicon Valley based Aragon Research.

According to the report, “Promapp’s secret sauce is its ability to be easy enough for beginners and business teams to be successful pretty quickly. … It is far more easy to use than others we have seen to date. The collaborative nature is a key feature, along with the ability to manage change and process variants.”

Earlier this year, Promapp was ranked as one of the fastest growing technology companies in New Zealand on the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 Asia Pacific.
