JOHANNESBURG (04/05/2004) - The AST Group and MTN have formed a partnership to provide mobility to their corporate customers by connecting their back-office applications to mobile devices using MTN's GSM network.
"MTNCorporateMobility is essential in assisting organizations to maximize the operational efficiency of their mobile workforce," explains Neil Hendry of the AST Group. "The AST Group and MTN solution is aimed at organizations where there are workers who are not desk-bound and whose work processes are linked into the overall workflow of the organization.
"Making use of the latest advances in handheld devices, mobile phones and wireless communications technology, it is possible to automate these workers' processes, and in so doing bring about a rapid and measurable return on investment to the organization,ö adds Hendry.
AST's customers will be able to connect to the MTN network through the direct connection of AST. The MTNdataLIVE (GPRS) connection is a secure managed mechanism using General Packet Switched Data (GPRS) technology. This solution is only available to corporate customers and could be implemented on a standard forward billing or a reverse billing option.
MTN GPRS covers over 98 percent of its network. MTNdataFAST (HSCSD) is also available as an option with reverse billing and utilization of the same direct connection through AST to provide the connectivity base that is required.
Farhad Khan, GM of MTN Business at MTN, says: "MTN is constantly exploring new ways to deliver the most convenient and appealing solutions to its customers, and its partnership with AST will assist us in this pursuit. MTNCorporateMobility is a solution that will transform the business data environment. It simplifies and reduces the billing process while simultaneously reducing cellular data charges. This reflects MTN's passion to enhance the lives of all South African businesses and consumers."
