Tomizone has announced plans to roll out its subscription based SaaS platform, Connect, in up to 50 Microsoft Innovation Centres globally, starting with pilot deployments in Belgium and Nepal.
According to Tomizone, Microsoft Innovation Centres are state of art technology facilities that are open to students, developers, IT professionals, entrepreneurs, start-ups and academic researchers located in Europe, Asia, Africa, India, South America and Australia.
Tomizone says its Tomizone Connect platform will enable Microsoft to “dynamically engage with and better understand the large number of visitors present at Innovation Centres across the world.”
Tomizone was founded in Auckland in 2006 by Steve Simms and Phillip Joe, initially to enable owners of Internet connected Wi-Fi routers to offer access to the internet to the general public, via Tomizone software on their router and receive a portion of the fee charged by Tomizone.
However the company has since greatly expanded its business. It listed on the Australian Stock Exchange in 2015 and Simms left the company in 2016 after founding craft beer brewer Birkenhead Brewing Company (according to his LinkedIn profile he is now director of that company and a “beer baron”). Joe is still with Tomizone as a director and its chief commercial officer.
Tomizone says the Microsoft deployment “further validates [Tomizone] as a leader in providing high performance in-venue connectivity and analytics – with an ease of use and speed of connectivity, across multiple sites with multi-language support and high quality user analytics which are proven to be valuable to major enterprise.”
However the company offers little information on this product, which appears to be still in its pre-launch stage. There is no mention of it on the Tomizone website: the only other reference CW was able to find was in the company’s half year report to the ASX, lodged in February, where Tomizone said:
“The group intends to move its software development capability to the Philippines with the conditional acquisition of Social Light Inc and its existing experience platform team. Additionally the group’s new focus on the Tomizone Connect platform will further help to reduce costs in the coming months and enable further specialist customer-focussed products to be developed in-house and sold.”
