Southland IT service provider, Focus Technology Group, has purchased the Southland assets of another IT service provider, CGNZ (Computer Group NZ) causing almost 20 CGNZ staff to lose their jobs.
The move follows the recent sale of CGNZ’s Auckland and Tauranga operations to Spark. Focus CEO Rod Sinclair said Focus would be in a position to deliver continuity of service to CGNZ clients as a Southland owned and operated IT service provider.
Focus’s acquisition sees a total of 25 CGNZ staff made redundant but Sinclair said Focus had taken on seven of those staff and he understood several others had been offered employment elsewhere in the IT sector in Southland.
He said some redundancies had been inevitable because one of CGNZ’s clients had decided to bring the provision of IT service in-house.
Sinclair said the remaining CGNZ staff would continue to operate out of the former CGNZ premises on the corner of Clyde and Forth Streets in the short term but would move to Focus’s Spey St premises over the next few weeks.
Focus Technology Group was founded by Sinclair in 1994 and today has 50 staff and five branches throughout the South Island. It provides IT, software, network infrastructure consultancy, project management, software development, support services and cloud-based services. The web site of the former CGNZ has been taken down
