Critics say IE changes premature

SAN FRANCISCO (10/10/2003) - Microsoft Corp. has been charged by skeptics with claims that the company is forcing developers to rewrite large portions of the Web, based on changes Microsoft said it will make to the Internet Explorer browser due to a software patent ruling against the company. The critics have claimed that the changes are premature. A new version of IE, expected early next year, will handle dynamic content such as RealOne, Macromedia Flash, or Apple QuickTime files to comply with the ruling.
