VeriSign to divest domain-name unit

FRAMINGHAM (10/17/2003) - VeriSign Inc. in Mountain View, Calif., is selling control of its Network Solutions Inc. domain-name registration unit as part of a plan to focus on IT security and other infrastructure technologies. VeriSign said Pivotal Private Equity in Phoenix will pay US$100 million for an 85 percent stake in Network Solutions. Meanwhile, VeriSign will retain its domain-name registry business.
