NZ tops world IT spend

New Zealand leads the world in IT spending as a proportion of gross domestic product, according to industry analyst International Data.

At 3% of GDP, New Zealand’s spending ratio beats out other leading countries including the United States, Australia and Singapore.

But in terms of IT spending per capita, New Zealand trails in 13th place, at a level of $US434, about half as much as the most lavish spender per capita, Switzerland .

While the US IT market, at $US188,565 million accounted for 40.6% of the world IT spending in 1995, New Zealand accounted for only 0.3%.
