Forget Java ... we got lava

Get a glimpse of the scene on the central plateau as Volcano Cam captures images from Mt Ruapehu.

The Volcano Cam is up and running again.

Just days after Ruapehu trashed yet another promising ski weekend, a team of enthusiasts has trained a video camera on the mountain to record the eruption for a worldwide Internet audience.

Visitors to can see minute-by-minute updates of what this afteroon looks a placid scene. However, rather than appearing under its winter mantle of pure white snow, the mountain is grey with ash and is steaming.

In what is thought to be the only live online geological phenomenon, the Volcano Cam proved to be one of the most popular World-Wide Web sites during last year's October eruption.
