Microsoft is to launch a UK-based daily online news service on the Microsoft Network by the end of this year, according to company sources.
Microsoft and NBC have already launched their US-based online news service, MSNBC Interactive, on the Microsoft Network. However, it is not yet clear whether Microsoft Online News, as the UK service is to be called, will be part of the MSNBC Interactive deal.
The companies are also due to roll out their 24-hour US TV service MSNBC TV to cable subscribers on July 15. The UK online service will take a "punchy popular consumer approach" to local news, according to a Price Jamieson official, the London-based recruitment consultant responsible for hiring editorial management for the service.
