Lotus and PointCast have announced plans to develop an information delivery system for corporate intranets based on Lotus Notes, Lotus' Domino technology and PointCast technologies. The system will allow network managers to develop applications for information delivery that combine external news and internal communications on a virtual private network.

Based on Lotus' forthcoming Domino intranet server, which will link Notes networks to the Internet, the system will allow users on an intranet to receive interactive information on the desktop via PointCast's I-Server, a software component of the Internet news service PointCast Network, which is tailored specifically to intranets.

PointCast technology allows news and information to be broadcast to a program resembling a screen saver on PCs connected to the Internet. The joint venture using Domino and PointCast will allow Notes-based companies to broadcast corporate news and information to employees in real-time.
