The Commerce Commission has "decided to take a look at" complaints against Telecom Xtra, according to a senior investigator.
Geoff Thorne, chief investigator for the commission's Commerce Act division, says he and his staff will be "going to speak to people in the industry and finding out if there are any issues we need to investigate further."
Thorne will be determining whether Xtra's general pricing, its 0800 pricing, or both, require investigation, "but if we tell the whole world exactly what we're seeking information on, that would hamper our ability to identify the issues."
Thorne says the commission has received five Commerce Act complaints about Xtra. Phil Dagger, a spokesman for one complainant, Voyager, has confirmed his company has been contacted by Thorne.
"He has requested a lot of information from us, which we're putting together right now. We're pretty confident this will go further."
