Novell plans a Groupwise 5.0 update next year that will enable users to publish document libraries on the Web, company officials say. The new project, code named Jefferson, will extend Groupwise's library system to the intranet and Internet, says Stewart Nelson, vice-president and general manager of Novell's groupware division.
"We're working to make the intranet and Internet users have access to all the great functions we've been developing in this product (for years)," Nelson says.
Novell expects to deliver Jefferson in the first quarter of next year, says Eldon Greenwood, director of Groupwise product management at Novell. Groupwise 5.0 customers won't have to reinstall a new version of Groupwise to use the Jefferson feature, he says.
"This is simply something they can put on top of an existing library to publish it to the intranet or Internet," Greenwood says. Features like full-text searching will also be available over the Web.
