First phase of Liberty Press Net strategy sees light of day

The first component of Liberty Press's Internet strategy goes live today, in the shape of the Property Press Online Service, a Website offering more than 3000 residential listings.

The site, developed by Clearfield Communications, allows users to not only browse listings but calculate deposit and mortgage repayments for individual properties. Liberty group managing director Barry Colman says real estate companies will be offered free listings until February 1, when a $12 charge will come in.

Ironically, the Property Press site comes into a relatively crowded market, with Harcourts and others hatching similar plans, but it will be helped by running alongside the highly successful print version of Property Press, which was launched in 1978. Several banks are also promoting their mortgage products directly to potential buyers.

Liberty has yet to outline its plans for online use of the knowledge base of National Business Review, which may yet be its greatest asset.

The new site is at http://www.property-press.co.nz.
