Silicon Graphics has supplied more than $2 million worth of high-end Onyx graphics supercomputer hardware to generate effects and graphics for TVNZ’s Decision’96 election special.
“We’re using the SGI system to generate a whole range of graphs and 3D visuals that will make the election results unfold in a way that will be much more informative and compelling for viewers,” says Shaun Brown, managing editor of TVNZ news and current affairs.
Details of the new graphics approach are being kept under wraps till the night, but Brown says TVNZ’s in-house graphics department began working with SGI 12 months ago to design the various effects. SGI has loaned the hardware in return for sponsorship credits.
Decision’96 screens from 7pm on TV1 on Saturday October 12.
