Be has licensed its operating system to Power Computing, the Macintosh clone-maker, company officials have announced.

Starting in the first quarter of next year, all Power Computing machines will be shipped with the Be OS and the Mac OS, officials say.

Be's OS offers high-level functions such as multitasking, multithreading, and high-performance symmetric multiprocessing. Be, founded by Jean-Louis Gassee, Apple's former research director, has reportedly been in discussions with Apple about possibly being acquired by Apple, which has denied those rumuors.

Be is on the Web at http://www.be.com and Power Computing at http://www.powercc.com.
