Financial Times Information, Dow Jones and Knight-Ridder Information news wire services have announced their intention to co-develop a combined information service for corporate, government and academic customers.
The companies will establish a data collection centre in London that will add over 2 million articles a year from national newspapers, magazines and trade publications around the world.
"One of our strategic aims is to overcome the current scarcity of information from the world's emerging markets such as Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, Africa, Latin America and the Pacific Rim," said a Financial Times Information spokesman, at the Online 96 conference in London yesterday. "One of the ways we will achieve this is by republishing localised newspapers and trade publications in English from these areas."
Pricing and availability for the service has yet to be announced.
