Blue Star has established a new division which groups all its technology companies together under Wang CEO Anthony Howard, who becomes chief executive of the Blue Star Business Solutions Division.
The group includes Wang and Imaging Solutions, PC Direct, Blue Star Office Automation, Ubix and Hart Candy. The combined companies have revenue of around $300 million.
Blue Star chief executive Eric Watson says the change is simply a matter of grouping the technology companies into one division.
“None of the companies has changed and each will have its own culture,” he says.
Doug Wilson, general manager client marketing at Wang, takes over as acting CEO of Wang until the board decides on a permanent appointment.
According to Howard, the plans are to expand the business in New Zealand and Australia. “The New Zealand focus is to prepare for convergence, which will lead toward all of our businesses adopting a solutions-type approach,” he says. “In Australia we will be acquiring businesses in similar sectors.”
Wang chief financial officer and company secretary Michael Cheyne has been seconded to the new division to assist Howard.
An @IDG news story last week on Howard's appointment to head the new technology group inadvertently gave the impression that Howard's new job was inferior to his previous position at Wang. @IDG accepts that Howard has been promoted to an important new post within the Blue Star group, and regrets any embarrassment caused by the earlier story.
