Telecom undecided on size of staff cuts

Telecom doesn't know how many jobs are likely to go in its latest cost-cutting exercise, but spokesman Clive Litt says staff cuts of some kind are a 'reasonable assumption'.

Telecom doesn’t know how many jobs are likely to go in its latest cost-cutting exercise.

On the back of lower profits recently, chief executive Roderick Deane indicated the telco would look at reducing costs across the board.

Managers have been given the responsibility of cutting costs in their divisions in any way that is appropriate.

Spokesman Clive Litt says that may be cost of sales, capital expenditure or staff.

“Staff cuts are a reasonable assumption, whether by redundancy or attrition,” he says. “As long as managers deliver service levels, it’s their decision.”

So far, no staff have been made redundant.
