Netscape reports sharply higher Q1 income, revenues

Netscape has reported net income of US$7.9 million in the quarter ended March 28, more than double the US$3.6 million reported in the same period last year. Revenue rose 114% during the period.

Netscape has reported net income of US$7.9 million in the quarter ended March 28, more than double the US$3.6 million reported in the same period last year.

Revenues rose 114% to US$120.2 million in the quarter, up from US$56.1 million for the same period last year. Netscape's server business continued to grow, especially in the email and groupware areas, readying the company for the launch of Suite Spot 3.0 in the second quarter, the company says.

Netscape closed up two-and-a-half points on the Nasdaq stock market at 27-and-a-half.
