Microsoft has chosen today to unveil the latest member of its BackOffice server family, Site Server, which will be geared for intranet management, including electronic-commerce applications.
Site Server, which will be shown at the company's Fusion '97 conference in Orlando, Florida, will allow for creation and management of Web sites, sources say. A demonstration will be featured in a keynote speech by Bob Muglia, vice president of server application division at Microsoft.
Visual InterDev, the new tool that made its debut in the Visual Studio suite, will be included to let developers personalize Web information quickly and easily.
Also on tap is an enterprise edition of Site Server, code-named Ossa, which will include Merchant Server electronic-commerce software, sources close to Microsoft said.
The new servers also will be shown at NetWorld+Interop, in Las Vegas, and Microsoft's Tech Ed conference in Orlando, Florida. They both went into beta testing in April.
