Rumours of a virus-induced breakdown at Telecom appear to be unfounded.
Computerworld received a tip-off through its Scoop file that “just about the whole Telecom NZ company was inoperative [because of] a major virus infection”.
The anonymous emailer claimed no PC at the company could be used while the incident was rectified.
Computerworld’s Wellington office received the same information. However, Telecom spokesman Quentin Bright says the rumours were untrue.
Bright says he made inquiries to various IT departments within Telecom: “No one has reported anything beyond the usual problems any company has during its day-to-day running.”
