Navy extends contract beyond frigates

All of the 10 Anzac frigates — including New Zealand’s Te Mana and Te Kaha — have, or will have, the Facilities Maintenance Management System to maintain the on board systems. The system was designed by Australian-based KDR Creative Software.

Commander John Tucker says the navy has been using FMMS for two years on HMNZS Endeavour. “But it’s only now that it’s really starting to take off.”

Tucker says expanding FMMS made sense because the New Zealand navy is too small to have more than one management maintenance system.

Director of marine engineering at navy headquarters, Commander Greg Lowe, says the navy looked for a product that was flexible. FMMS was the best product on the market at the time.
