Verity plans to buy the KeyView file viewing and filtering product line from FTP Software for $US1.5 million, seeking to improve its Internet search offerings, company officials say.
Verity expects to use the KeyView products in its Search'97 product line, to replace Inso's QuickView, company officials said. KeyView and KeyView Pro are Windows-based utilities that can be used to view, convert, compress, and secure most file types, officials say; they can be used as a browser plug-in, standalone as a separate application, or be integrated with email or groupware applications.
Search'97 products with the KeyView additions and other updates will ship in the third quarter of this year, officials say. KeyView's filtering capability will be integrated throughout Verity's entire product line by the end of the third quarter.
Verity plans to continue the KeyView product line and maintain KeyView as a business unit run under Verity's name, officials say. The unit will remain based in Calgary, Canada.
The deal is expected to close in the next few weeks, officials say.
