Apple Computer indicated yesterday that it does not expect to return to profitability in its fiscal fourth quarter, reaffirming the fiscal picture it painted last month.

According to financial documents filed this week with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the struggling computer maker does not believe it will be in the black by the end of its fiscal fourth quarter in September. Former CEO Gil Amelio, before his resignation last month, had predicted a return to profitability in the September quarter, but CFO Fred Anderson revised those predictions when Apple reported its third fiscal quarter results.

Among other factors, Apple's results could be affected by its ability to attract a new CEO, the SEC Form 10-Q filing states.
