Microsoft has acknowledged it has received yet another request for information from the US Department of Justice, will not say if request was spurred by Microsoft's recent investment in Apple Computer, as some reports have suggested.
Microsoft released a statement following news reports that the Justice Department is examining its investments for possible antitrust violations. According to the reports, under scrutiny are its investments - including one acquisition - in streaming media technology companies, as well as its US$150 million investment in Apple.
Microsoft maintains that the request concerns the streaming media business, in which, according to a statement released by Microsoft, there are ample competitors, including Oracle, Silicon Graphics and IBM.
Microsoft will cooperate with the Justice Department and will not comment further on the specifics of the inquiry, according to the statement.
