Y2K no excuse for tax delays

Inability to meet year 2000 requirements will not be accepted by Inland Revenue as an excuse for not complying with taxation responsibilities. Communications Minister Maurice Williamson told Parliament last week that the IRD would be contacting businesses to advise them of this, largely as an exercise to make them aware of the impending problems.

Communications Minister Maurice Williamson told Parliament last week that the IRD would be contacting businesses to advise them of this, largely as an exercise to make them aware of the impending problems.

But according to IRD, it's not necessarily the department's reponsibility to forewarn people of the year 2000 compliance issue.

IRD will look at the issue next year and make a decision then if and how it will communicate the issues.
