Unisys has won a lucrative desktop outsourcing contract at Inland Revenue, ahead of Wang and IBM.
The deal is worth around $4 million a year, plus charges and set-up costs.
It’s part of a a major out-sourcing programme at IRD, which has identified 39 areas of review across legislative, service delivery and core business processes; support systems; information management; and technical support.
Earlier this year the network was outsourced to a Telecom-led consortium.
Meanwhile, a decision is imminent on new financials, with the shortlisted candidates being SAP and Oracle. It’s understood the hardware platform will be Sun.
Unisys will interface with the successful vendor.
In the broader arena, the IRD has made 550 staff redundant as part of its restructuring, begun in 1995, raising Public Service Association concerns that the department is shrinking and may reduce to below critical mass.
