SGI's McCracken out, up to 1000 layoffs

Silicon Graphics has announced the resignation of chairman and CEO Edward McCracken and a cost-cutting restructuring program which could include as many as 1000 layoffs. SGI says it will eliminate between 700 and 1000 positions worldwide, including contractors. The company expects to take a restructuring charge in the current quarter of approximately $US50 million, mostly attributed to the workforce reductions.
